10,000 Flowers

It goes without saying but I’ll say it anyway, that good things take time, and that practice makes perfect. With our ever shortening attention span, is patience still a virtue? It is said that it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert in something, but where do we find the time?

These paintings are some of the most labor intensive works I’ve attempted to make, and they’ve taught me to appreciate things that take time - flowering trees that take years to establish, heirloom quilts that take generations to complete, lives and stories that unfold season after season. Paintings have something unique, the notion that it could take thousands of hours to create just a fleeting moment of joy. The art of looking is not lost even if most images get digested in an instant. To savor something is a gift, and to take your time is a luxury.
